How an NMRV Worm Gear Reducer Works

The NMRV worm gear reducer uses a worm shaft (a helical screw) that meshes with a bronze worm wheel. The worm is driven by an electric motor through a bell housing or input shaft, and the worm wheel rotates at a reduced speed with increased torque. The 90-degree shaft arrangement allows the output to drive a perpendicular load — ideal for conveyor pulleys, packaging rollers and mixing shafts.

The hollow output shaft accepts a keyed shaft directly through the reducer, saving the need for a separate coupling and bearing support. Sizes 025–090 use a die-cast aluminum alloy housing that resists rust and dissipates heat efficiently. Sizes 110–150 use G200 grey cast iron for higher rigidity under heavy radial and axial loads.

Center Distance & Ratio Selection Guide

Choose the center distance based on required output torque and radial load; choose the ratio based on required output speed. Below is the standard ratio range for each size. Double-stage combinations are available for ratios above 100:1.

Center Distance Housing Single-Stage Ratios Typical Power Range
025 / 030 Aluminum alloy 7.5:1 – 60:1 0.06 – 0.25 kW
040 / 050 Aluminum alloy 7.5:1 – 100:1 0.12 – 0.75 kW
063 / 075 / 090 Aluminum alloy 7.5:1 – 100:1 0.55 – 2.2 kW
110 / 130 / 150 G200 cast iron 7.5:1 – 100:1 1.5 – 18.5 kW

Need a ratio above 100:1? Double-stage combinations are available: 25/30, 25/40, 30/40, 30/50, 30/63, 40/75, 40/90, 50/110, 63/130 and 63/150. Send your required output speed and torque for a confirmed selection.

Where NMRV Worm Gear Reducers Are Used

  • Conveyor systems — belt and roller conveyors in packaging, food processing and material handling lines.
  • Packaging machinery — filling, capping, labelling and carton-sealing equipment requiring compact right-angle drives.
  • Food and beverage processing — mixers, agitators and rotary fillers where washdown and corrosion resistance matter.
  • Agricultural machinery — grain augers, feed mixers and manure spreaders driven from a tractor PTO or electric motor.
  • HVAC and ventilation — cooling tower fans and air handling units where quiet operation is required.
  • OEM equipment — machine builders needing a repeatable, pre-engineered speed reduction solution.
  • MRO replacement — replacing worn NMRV units on existing production equipment.

Quality Control You Can Audit

Every NMRV worm gear reducer goes through incoming material verification, worm shaft grinding and profile check to ZI form (0.5mm), worm wheel bronze composition verification (CuSn12Ni2), backlash and contact pattern inspection, oil seal and leak testing, and a no-load running test before packing.

Loading capacity is calculated in accordance with ISO 14521, DIN 3996, BS 721, AGMA 6034, ISO 6336, DIN 3990, DIN 743 and ISO 281. Read how we manage process control and traceability on our Quality page, or see the full company profile for capacity and equipment.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Check oil level before commissioning. Aluminum units are supplied with synthetic oil; cast iron units should be filled to the oil level plug.
  • The universal mounting position means the unit can be installed in any orientation without changing the oil quantity.
  • Align the input motor shaft with the reducer input before tightening the coupling. Misalignment causes noise and premature seal wear.
  • For hollow shaft mounting, ensure the driven shaft is clean and keyed correctly, and use the torque arm to prevent rotation.
  • Change the oil after the first 500 hours of operation, then every 5,000 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
  • Inspect oil seals for weeping at each service interval. Replace worn seals early to prevent oil loss and contamination.
  • Keep the breather plug clean and unobstructed to prevent pressure build-up inside the gearbox.

FAQ — NMRV Worm Gear Reducer

What is an NMRV worm gear reducer used for? An NMRV worm gear reducer is a right-angle speed reducer that transfers power between perpendicular shafts while reducing speed and increasing torque. It is commonly used in conveyor systems, packaging machinery, food processing equipment, material handling, and agricultural machinery where a compact, quiet drive is required. The hollow output shaft allows direct mounting onto the driven shaft, saving space compared to inline gear reducers.
What sizes and ratios are available? The NMRV series covers 10 center distances: 025, 030, 040, 050, 063, 075, 090, 110, 130 and 150. Single-stage reduction ratios range from 5:1 to 100:1. Double-stage combinations extend ratios up to 1000:1. Send your required center distance and ratio for a confirmed match.
What is the difference between aluminum and cast iron housings? Sizes 025 to 090 use die-cast aluminum alloy housings, which are lightweight, rust-proof and offer good heat dissipation. Sizes 110 to 150 use G200 grey cast iron housings for higher rigidity and load capacity. Both are painted with RAL 5010 blue epoxy-polyester powder to DIN 1843. Aluminum units are supplied with synthetic oil and allow universal mounting positions without changing lubricant quantity.
What materials are used in the worm wheel and worm shaft? The worm wheel is made of bronze CuSn12Ni2 (UNI7013-10). The worm shaft is made of 20Cr steel, carbonized and quenched, then ground to a 0.5mm profile with ZI tooth form (UNI4760). This combination provides high wear resistance, efficient power transmission and quiet running.
What is the MOQ and lead time? Sample orders are accepted for fitment and quality verification before bulk purchase. MOQ depends on size and whether the model is in stock or produced to order. Lead time is typically 5–10 days for samples and 20–30 days for mass production. Send your quantity and destination port for a quotation.
Can you customize the worm gear reducer for my application? Yes. We support OEM/ODM customization including custom ratios, input flange dimensions to match your motor, output shaft configuration (single, double, hollow, solid), mounting position, paint color, and branded packaging. Send your application requirements, drawing or sample for engineering review.
