How Double Single Sprockets Work

A double single sprocket has two rows of teeth machined on a single hub. Each row meshes with one single-strand roller chain. Because both rows rotate together on the same shaft, one drive input can power two separate chain circuits at exactly the same speed.

This configuration is widely used in two scenarios: daisy-chain drives, where a long conveyor is driven by a series of chains linked through double single sprockets, and load-sharing drives, where two chains run in parallel to carry higher tension than a single chain could handle. In both cases, the double single sprocket eliminates the need for an additional shaft, coupling or gear pair.

Size Selection Guide

Choose the chain size based on required load capacity and speed; choose the tooth count based on required ratio and available space. Below is the standard range for each ANSI chain size. Custom tooth counts are available on request.

Chain Size Pitch Tooth Range Stock Bore Typical Application
ANSI #40 1/2 in (12.7 mm) 12T – 25T 0.5 in – 1.25 in Light conveyors, packaging lines
ANSI #50 5/8 in (15.875 mm) 12T – 25T 0.625 in – 1.25 in Medium conveyors, agriculture
ANSI #60 3/4 in (19.05 mm) 12T – 25T 0.75 in – 1.25 in Heavy conveyors, mining
ANSI #80 1 in (25.4 mm) 12T – 21T 1 in – 1.5 in Heavy industrial drives
ANSI #100 1-1/4 in (31.75 mm) 12T – 21T 1.25 in – 1.5 in Mining, steel mills, heavy duty

Full dimensional data (O.D, P.C.D, caliper diameter, length through bore, hub diameter) is available in the technical drawing above. Send your chain size, tooth count and required bore for a confirmed quotation.

Where Double Single Sprockets Are Used

  • Conveyor systems — daisy-chain drives over long distances where one chain drives the next through intermediate double single sprockets.
  • Dual-chain load sharing — two parallel chains carrying higher tension than a single chain could handle.
  • Agricultural machinery — feed conveyors, grain handling and manure spreaders.
  • Packaging and printing lines — synchronised drives for multiple stations at identical speed.
  • Material handling — roller conveyors and transfer units in distribution centres.
  • OEM equipment — machine builders needing a pre-engineered dual-chain drive solution.
  • MRO replacement — replacing worn double single sprockets on existing production equipment.

Quality Control You Can Audit

Every stock bore double single sprocket goes through incoming C45 steel verification, tooth profile and pitch diameter inspection, tooth hardness check (40–50 HRC), bore dimension and runout verification, and a final visual and dimensional check before packing.

Dimensions and tolerances comply with ANSI B29.1, ISO 606 and DIN 8187. Read how we manage process control and traceability on our Quality page, or see the full company profile for capacity and equipment.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Check shaft and keyway fit before mounting. The sprocket should slide on with light hand pressure, not require hammering.
  • Align both chain rows to their respective chains. Misalignment causes uneven tooth loading and accelerated wear on one row.
  • Verify chain tension on both chains independently — each chain circuit has its own tension requirement.
  • Lubricate both chain rows according to the chain manufacturer's recommendation for the operating speed and load.
  • Inspect tooth profile at each service interval. Replace the sprocket when tooth wear reaches the chain manufacturer's replacement limit.
  • Keep the chain and sprocket clean of abrasive debris. Contamination accelerates tooth and pin wear.

FAQ — Stock Bore Double Single Sprockets

What is a stock bore double single sprocket? A stock bore double single sprocket is a double single-row chain sprocket with a standard aperture. It has two rows of teeth on one hub, allowing it to drive two single-strand roller chains from a single shaft. This configuration is commonly used for daisy-chain drives over long distances or to drive one shaft with two chains for increased load capacity.
What chain sizes and tooth counts are available? We supply stock bore double single sprockets for ANSI #40 (1/2 in pitch), #50 (5/8 in), #60 (3/4 in), #80 (1 in) and #100 (1-1/4 in), with tooth counts from 12 to 25T. Standard stock bores include 0.5 in, 0.625 in, 0.75 in, 0.875 in, 1 in and 1.25 in. Larger bores and custom keyways can be machined to order.
What material and heat treatment are used? Our sprockets are made from high-quality C45 carbon steel. The teeth are induction-hardened to 40–50 HRC, which significantly extends service life compared with non-hardened sprockets, especially under high load and abrasive conditions.
What is the MOQ and lead time? Sample orders are accepted for fitment and quality verification before bulk purchase. MOQ depends on size and whether the model is in stock or produced to order. Lead time is typically 5–10 days for samples and 20–30 days for mass production. Send your quantity and destination port for a quotation.
Can you customize the bore, keyway or tooth count? Yes. We support OEM/ODM customization including custom bore diameter, keyway dimensions, tooth count, hub configuration (A-type plate or B-type hub) and surface treatment such as black oxide or zinc plating. Send your drawing or sample for engineering review.
